So I have a course that I am considering dropping. I am a political science major, and it is a political science course.
It is not a major requirement though, but it is UC-transferrable. I am two weeks ahead of the W deadline so if I drop it will not be noted on my transcript. It does not affect my IGETC which will be done at the end of this semester, and I will still have 60+ units without it.

I am in a tough spot because my wife is going back to school, and is taking a very demanding course, and I will need to be flexible in my schedule because of this. What is the process for this? Should I simply update the TAU? Should I call each campus individually? Will it affect when my admission decision is released, and will it look bad? Can they reject me because of this?

I am in almost exactly the same situation. History major want to drop history course that isnt required and i already will have 60 units n IGETC without it. I was just taking it to be more competitive. Now i have until Sunday to drop it without a W. Still deciding what to do I am meeting with a UCLA rep tommorow to discuss it. From past posts it seems UCs dont mind, but from what ive read people usually drio courses unrelated to there major. You shoud call them or email them if you decided to drop it.

Maybe call the too UC you want to attend and ask for their opinion on how it will reflect you application. Im asking tommorow it cant hurt.

Yeah. I mean in all honesty if I drop it won’t even show on my transcript. So if I want I can just say I had planned to take as I listed it “Pl”, but could not secure a spot? I mean that has to happen to others so they can’t really penalize me for this sort of thing right?

Spoke to the UCLA rep i decided to keep it only because without ot i have 61 units. And its too close imo to 60 limit. However before that rep said it was perfectly fine to drop without a W. As long as everything is met. So yoy should be fine. Update TAU and than email UCs

Thanks for sharing that. I will have 67 credits if I drop it so I’m not too nervous. I guess I’m still just paranoid it will look bad, and be the deal breaker.

Btw how do we confirm what courses are for sure transferrable? Is assist completely accurate? It would suck if I dropped and found out that assist was wrong about a few of my classes.

Assist.org is completely accurate; it’s used frequently by CC counselors, students, and I believe even UC admissions officers. It’s a reliable tool intended to help all those who wish to transfer to different public community colleges or universities in California. I’ve never heard of it misleading anyone in my time on this forum.

Also, on the UC application, dropdown menus of all classes list only those classes that are transferable. Any nontransferable classes that you’ve taken have to be entered in manually after clicking the “I don’t see all of my college courses” link.
