I am shooting for:

Indiana U. at bloomington
U. Michigan Ann Arbor
U. of Maryland college park
Arizona State
Boston College
Northwestern

Looks like you have a nice solid list of schools that match your stats well. I would not worry about admission to either IU or NYU. In fact, I'd say IU is probably a safety for you if you get your application in early in the admissions cycle. Best of luck.

IU is a safety and who would ever choose it over NYU? I mean if they gave you tons of money or you are already from NYU and want a rural campus experience but otherwise NO. Of course you didn't mention what you wanted to study or anything else except stats.

i want to major in business, specifically marketing and indiana has one of the best busines programs in the country. Also, NYU is very expensive and even though my parents can afford it, I dont want to drain their bank accounts and plus i have to take out a loan. Indiana has one of the most amazing campuses and i cant take my eyes off of it. But in honest truth, I have always wanted to go to NYU even though NYC isnt one of my favorite cities. Do you think I could be pottentially more successful if i were to graduate from NYU as opposed to Indiana? Thanks

Business is a fairly general area..........I mean you would need a focus. I guess I would direct you to the fact that if you are looking at IU you would also want to consider Purdue. Both have business programs and as far as ranking....it is a split really. Kelley just had an alum donate 25 million if that matters. You love IUs campus and I understand that.

As for Kelley v Stern.....I would have to give the win to Stern. Are you eliminating Wharton for any particular reason? I mean you are looking at Stern and so why not consider Wharton? As to Kelley i would give some thought to your focus within the undergrad business degree. My guess is you can get some money from Kelley but maybe not Stern. As for NYC.....i love the city so I am the wrong one to ask about Bloomington.....hard to travel to, no direct flights. That would matter to me but then again it is only 4 years.

Well I said that i wanted to major in marketing and finance and supposely Bloomington is top 10 in those majors. Purdue's management is excellent but not marketing. And as far as Wharton, I dont think i have a chance so I am not gonna waste my time applying and worrying over something thats inevitable. So do you actually think NYU is a much better choice in terms of its education, opportunities, potentials and everything else?

You seem sold on Kelley so I'd say if that sounds like a great 4 years then do it. Stern is also hard to get into......it is in a city you don't like so go for IU. I think you can do well coming out of Kelley. As it relates to marketing and finance.....i don't know what your dream job/location is. I mean I would ask around about regional bias......hiring out of Kelley. Where do they send their grads. Have you read the latest WSJ/MBA survey article?
http://www.careerjournal.com/reports/bschool_index/

it seems like indiana is up there in the regional rankings.. and nyu is in the national so its a lot better i assume. are the rankings for mbas only? i am thinking about going to a more prestigious grad school because then i can pay for it by myself after working for a year or two and plus my parents may have some money left in the bank if i decide to go to IU. so what do you think?

The WSJ ranking is MBA. The USNWR looks like this for business national:

yea actually thats where i found my top 5 schools lol. i got down to nyu and indiana becaue they both fit me but i am just not sure which one will be the "right" one for me in terms of my potential after i graduate. plus i wanna enjoy my 4 years u know?

What kind of job do you think you want? Ad agency? Corporate type? I mean I think you might consider that part. Also.....you said finance. That is a whole other ballgame. As to which one? Both are Big10 and as a city to drink n party IU is infamous. Purdue has more engineers. As to the city you might want to land in? Do some looking at who recruited in Bloomington and West Lafayette. That is available when you look at the WSJ site. That may help you.

yea i am not shooting for any engineers or anything. i want a job in a marketing company, corporate is fine. i wanna do finance because my mom majored in that and she says its the safe way to go . partying and drinking are fun but they come after my education or else i could just go to one of my state schools. i stillt hink its too early to decide on my future career but i am going into marketing or finance. maybe you have some better suggestions

When i said kind of job I guess I meant big firm, mid firm........NE or midwest.....it is all different. I mean if you come out of a school there are specific firms and industries who like the students. I mean if your dream is NYC and a big firm.....Stern is the school for you. If Chicago suburb is your dream then it is probably good for Kelley. If you want SanFrancisco......well I would look elsewhere from Kelley. It is called regional bias. I don't mean the actual job......perse just the idea. As to finance......it is hugely popular. It is a diverse specialty. I know you yourself don't want to be an engineer but I telling you that Purdue has a large engineering/computer science reputation. What are your options for internships at either school? Many guys get their first job via the internship.

thanks for explaining your earlier point. i dont like the city and i dont think i will. i have alwyas lived in a quiet suburban city with big houses and lawns. i dont care about where in the country but as long as it's a suburb with nice houses and lawns that's where i want to be. i dont know much about internships right at this moment.

Okay.....life in the burbs.....you cannot go wrong at either school. I think you can find happiness and a good job. Now if you were gunning for WallStreet or International Firms.....say China or other then you may be taking the long road. good luck I think you will have no trouble getting into IU.....Stern is more selective which says nothing about your credentials they just have greater numbers of qualified applicants. As to Purdue......probably no problem there either....Purdue does have money to give. Just a thought.

well i thought maybe i can get IU to give me a lotta $ if i meet the early deadline to show them hey i wanan come here even though i can use you as a safety.. u know? i visited NYU during the summer and it was over whelming. i mean i cant imagine taking the metro every day to work and walk for the rest of my life. i am getting a new car after i graduate as promised by my dad and i plan to actually drive it. maybe i should look into purdue for management but i really wanan major in marketing ( u know on the creative side) thanks for all of your opinions though. one last reply ? : )
