let me be more clear, sorry.
Lets just say you are already accepted at xx university based on your 3.775 unweighted / 4.07 weighted GPA and come May when you graduate, your GPA has slipped somewhat to ???? i don't know....3.5. (unweighted)....you accept at this xx university already and of course, they ask for your final transcript by xx date.....I know they CAN change their mind, but what do you think / does it take to make that happen......a more substantial drop or ???
just thinking ahead. DD doing well, but has a couple grades that so far this semester will slightly lower her GPA. Trying not to worry YET ....

how selective the school is…an ivy or other top school won’t like seeing serious grade slips.

how much the GPA slips… a little drop is probably ok…more than that might result in rescinding the acceptance. Colleges don’t like it when seniors let their grades go once the student is admitted. That’s why they ask for mid-year and/or final transcripts.

I think some schools have minimum B or minimum C requirement for core classes like language, math, science etc. A D in a class like that could blow you out even if it may not affect the cumulative GPA too much?

I did the math for your scenario. To have a 3 year GPA of 3.775 slip to a 4 year GPA of 3.5 you would have to have a senior year GPA of 2.675. So, for all your senior year grades, you would have an average of a exact B- instead of a strongish A-. There will be schools that would not like that. So, like it has been said above, the more selective the school the bigger the problem that will be.

The lady in my career center told me usually…in your case if you average a 3.77, then you should keep getting straight A’s and B’s. One C won’t hurt…but a D and E will kill you most likely.

She also told me colleges are revoking more people nowadays…so.

Good luck man, you should be fine though. Keep your head up. SENIOR YEAR!!!

oh yeah, no ivy league schools, but one is a slightly more selective state school, and the other is a pretty selective state school (UCF being the the first and UF being the pretty selective one…)

I know a girl who was admitted into Caltech and later revoked of her admission because she dropped the math class she was taking because she had a C.

OP…since your the mom asking this question…

Are you asking because you’re concerned that your child is going to have a “what the heck” attitude now that he thinks that the rest of this school year’s grades won’t count?

I know that I had to remind DS2 not to have a cavalier attitude about his second semester grades during senior year.
