I’ll try to keep this general in case anyone else has had this problem. At some point during Fall '16 changes were made on assist.org for the articulated classes between my school and UC Merced. I’ve e-mailed the admissions/transfer department about it, but I wanted to ask you all here as well whether I was expected to catch this and adapt to it before registering for Spring? Like I mentioned in the topic, by the time I saw this I was already registered and everything was full. There was no way for me to change my plan.
What exactly were the changes?
Biology and MATLAB were added.
I believe if at the time you took the class, it matched, they have to accept it. I’m not 100% sure. But pretty sure. Call them.
Oh, wait, I see they were added. This happened with Berkeley’s psych when they added calc, but they had a grace period. Again, call admissions.
Thanks for your input, @Ohm888 I actually did contact admissions and was told the following…
"The only courses you are required to have in order to meet the transfer selection criteria for that major are the following;
CHEM 2, MATH 21, MATH 22, MATH 23, MATH 24, PHYS 8, and PHYS 9
The criteria in Assist is updated based upon faculty review of course criteria.
Kind regards,
Office of Admissions"
Sooo…basically I’ve been living a lie for 2 years???
@solosix, I assume this is for MechE, CivE or EnvE?
UC Merced’s response basically outlines the minimum requirements which is (mostly) regulated by ABET accreditation standards combined with campus specific graduation requirements rather than admissions.
I suspect the additional classes that were added on Assist.org would be treated as “recommended” courses which would give applicants increased chances of admission should they have them completed.
Generally though, the applicant is responsible of keeping track of all requirement changes. UC Berkeley Psychology’s leniency regarding their recent addition of Calc should be treated as an exception rather than the norm.
They also usually list future changes in the text above the course list a year or so in advance, especially if, like calc, it entails the pre-req of pre-calc. A lot of people don’t read that thoroughly.
And yeah, as @SDGoldenBear noted, it seems to clearly state on assist that those are the only classes needed to be completed, assuming that is your major.
Read the top always.
