do we have to take the major we indicated in the application? or can we change to something else(not BME of course) but i want to take the international studies
thanks

I think it's pretty easy as long as you don't want to transfer into BME.

If you applied as an Arts and Sciences major, then you don't actually declare a major till sophomore year. When you come in, you're assigned an advisor based on your last name, not your prospective major. It's really really easy to change your field of interest - I know people who have changed what they think they are majoring in 3 times already in their freshman year.

If you come in as an Engineering major, then your advisor is a faculty member in your department. It's still very easy to change your major (other than changing into BME).

tanman is right (as usual).

i would just add that at this time there is no need to be concerned about your intended major unless you plan to switch from A&S to Engineering, or vice versa. If this is the case, then when you receive your course registration materials over the summer you would want to note this desire to switch. There are no restrictions, except for BME.
