changing branch for major degree

im doing industrial engineering and management right now. can i get a degree for masters in engineering management by choosing computer science or IT as the core subject??

Hmmm…from my understanding, most M.S./M.Eng in Engineering Management programs are structured (30, 33 or 36 credits) like:

Probability & Statistics
Operations Research/Optimization
Project or Engineering Management I
Project or Engineering Management II
Quality Engineering/Management course (like Six-Sigma, DOE, Quality Control, etc)
Engineering Economy/Cost Estimation type of course
and 4+ technical electives

Your 4+ technical electives could be in graduate computer science, information systems or software engineering courses.

ok thank you so much!
i just had another question… so for those 4+ electives if i wanted to take computer science would i need to do any pre-requisites for that or will be allowed to just directly take it??

More than likely, the graduate computer science courses will require prerequisites. Usually, the grad students who have little undergrad CS coursework opt to take “Information Systems” as the computer-centric emphasis. Most graduate schools have some “IS-500 or IS-600” course that has very few prerequisites and gives a good foundation of information systems.

You won’t be able to take a graduate course in say “operating systems” successfully without taking the undergraduate version of the course first.

ok so by taking “Information Systems” will my job prospects in California be good??

Now THAT…I cannot answer because I do not know what is “hot” in California. If I were to take an educated guess, with places like Silicon Valley and the number of high-quality CS programs in California, I would say that more hardcore CS is probably more prevalent than Information Systems.

…but I am merely guessing

ok thanks a lot for your help :)
