i just recently got accepted to Eleanor Roosevelt College, and i was wondering if it's possible for me to transfer to another College in UCSD.

Q: Can I change the college I was admitted to?
A: No. Each college has a certain number of spaces for freshmen. Unlike most universities, your college is not determined by your major. This gives you a unique opportunity to meet a wider range of people.
However, after you have completed your colleges writing program, and if you can demonstrate that switching to a different college will allow you to graduate in fewer academic quarters, you can submit a college-change petition through your colleges academic advisor. In practice, the overwhelming majority of students are happy with their college assignment, even if it was not their first choice originally, and few students apply to switch.

Short answer: It’s incredibly difficult. ERC is great, don’t worry too much about college selection. At the end of the day you get a degree from UCSD, not your specific college.

don’t worry about switching colleges. you’ll hear contrasting opinions all the time about which college is better and whatnot, but in reality they are all basically the same. you’ll learn to embrace your college when you get there. only the babies moan and complain about their college.

Don’t worry about switching, I know people who went there, and they say that the college they got in to really didn’t make a difference, it’s still all UCSD.

^Exactly. 10 char

I really dislike hearing about how people chose colleges at whim when applying because they didn’t bother doing 10 minutes of research. It’s true that UCSD is UCSD, but the fact that I’m done with GEs (finished muir writing in my 1st year) in the middle of my 2nd year gives me a much more flexible schedule than another student. I’ve heard terrible stories about mmw and other bad GE classes.

^It’s true. I researched the colleges before I applied and even then now that I’m here I’ve realized some things that I didn’t before, but really, it doesn’t matter. People should think of this as a life lesson though. Make more informed decisions in the future.

IDK about you guys, but I’m excited to go to ERC :p

It gets a bad rep, but it seems cool to me!

Elee, I must respectfully disagree. For those of us who haven’t visited SD it was strange to rank the colleges when we had no idea what the differences between them were. On the internet all we saw was biased accounts by people attending Warren or ERC.

Heck, I still am not clear about what a GE is!

^GE stands for general education. These are the classes that you are either required to take or are required to pick from that aren’t (necessarily) related to your major.

I’ve heard one of the ways you can transfer colleges is to prove that you can graduate on time/ earlier if you switch to another one. (basing it on GE’s, etc) My friend is in the process of doing this but is still debating whether she should or not. Seriously, the college you’re in isn’t that big of a deal, you’ll learn to love it and love the people in it and also love what it is about all the other colleges that make UCSD what it is. ERC’s got this universal/worldwide consciousness philosophy and I think it’s great. But like mentioned above, at the end of the day you’re all graduating and getting a degree from UCSD. :)
