Is it possible to apply to a college with certain major then change it any time once you get in? For example, go from major in english to bio?? Are you free to do that?

depends on the college, check their policies. for example, MIT doesn’t care at all what major you apply with, it’s just as hard to get in as a philosophy major as it is to get in with an engineering major. for this reason, you can switch any time. on the other hand, many schools with particular well known programs (johns hopkins for biology stuff, carnegie mellon for engineering and computer stuff) won’t let you switch into those popular majors, because it’s harder to get in depending on what you apply as, unless you do really really well in your classes and take a bunch of extra ones, and it’s difficult to transfer.

^^ agree. An example is Cornell where you apply to a specific school within the university. You can easily change major within your school but switching schools is more complicated. Call or email admissions officers to ask.

About 70% of incoming collegians switch their majors.
