So I was accepted to Davis as an English major, but since applying, I’ve decided that English might not be for me. Is it hard to change majors between the divisions in the College of Letters and Sciences? I know you can’t change majors before the end of the first quarter, but how hard is it to change from the Division of Humanities to either the Math or the Social Sciences divisions after that? This might determine whether I attend or not because I don’t want to be stuck in a major that I’m skeptical about studying.

It’s really easy. You just need to obtain a major change petition form (these forms can be found in the advising center for your major or in the dean’s office) and get a signature from an adviser (either a staff adviser or your faculty adviser) of the major you are currently in and a signature from an adviser of the major you want to switch to. That’s it. And then it takes approximately 3 days average for the change to register on the system.

It’s not hard at all unless you transfer to engineering, for which you need a GPA requirement. You’ll be fine.

niklas: Not only that, but those wanting to transfer to engineering have to have completed MAT 21ABC, PHY 9A, and and CHE 2A.
