My major is currently a b.a. in sociology. I only took two courses: intro to soc (had a c+) and soc 4 (had a c-), therefore, i am in academic probation for this major. i completely dislike this major and cannot picture myself at all repeating the soc 4 course! the major i completely want is not offered at ucr (a bsw-bachelors in social work). what can i do if this major i want is not offered at ucr?? i want to become a social worker and have no idea of what other major besides sociology i can take that will also help me pursue a masters in social work. what should i do?? i couldn't go to summer school so therefore i cannot see my advisor until i go back on sept.

Meet with an adviser when you come back in the fall - your current adviser can provide some guidance, and you’ll need to meet with the adviser in whichever department you want to switch into. If you’re interested in social work, you could also pursue a degree in psychology, political science, or econ. However, you don’t need a specific major to pursue a Master’s in social work, but most schools recommend coursework in psych, poli sci, econ, and sociology.

I’m basing all my info off what’s available online, but psych would probably provide you with a good foundation in social work. Your biggest hurdle would be actually changing your major since psych is hugely impacted. I’d definitely talk to your soc adviser as soon as you’re back on campus!
