Does anyone know how difficult or easy it would be to change from the college of science to engineering? My s is accepted into the Eberly college of science for the fall. He was able to change his major at other schools where he was accepted, but at the time he was not considering psu. Now he is reconsidering psu. Just curious as to how realistic a change would be at this late date.

People don't usually elect a major until the end of their second year. It's not necessary to change it right now. He can just take classes towards engineering and apply for a major later on. Remember, most engineering majors here are under enrollment control.

At PSU, the engineering majors under enrollment control are:

Aerospace Engineering 100
Architectural Engineering 100
Bioengineering* 40
Civil Engineering 175
Mechanical Engineering 230

For all but bioengineering, a student must have at least a 3.0 cum GPA with the required courses at a C grade or better. For Bioengineering, a student must have at least a 3.3 cum GPA with C or better in the required courses for entry to major.

Division of Undergraduate Studies: Advising Updates

However, I believe (I am not sure) a student who wants to switch colleges has to go to DUS and then apply for entry to major in the fourth semester after completing the required entry to major courses.

Thanks for your replies. My s has not yet even accepted admission. For anyone else who has a similar question, I called psu today. All one needs to do is e-mail admissions and they will reconsider your application for engineering. Not sure how long it will take for a decision. It appears it would be easier to start out in the college of engineering than to try to transfer in from another college once you enroll.
