How impossible would it be to transfer from L&S MCB to civil/environmental engineering? What classes would I have to take my freshman year? Btw I am a spring admit.

I’m facing a similar situation as you, in changing majors. I was admitted to CoE BioE and am trying to get to EECS. From what I’m reading and after talking to an adviser, switching within a college is MUCH easier than switching between colleges.

The Engineering college recommends that you wait two semesters before you try to apply for a new major. It’s pretty competitive and is largely driven by GPA (from what I was reading, at least 3.0, but sometimes higher). You have to complete the regular prerequisite courses and prove that you are on track to graduate within your four years at Cal.

You’re a spring admit, which might complicate things. I have read online about doing CC in your fall semester, but I’m not that well-read on that subject. Hopefully some other posters will reply with more information.

I hope that answers your questions. You should Google resources online, and the CoE is pretty clear cut on what you have to do. Good luck!

Hello

I just switched to Mech E (got my acceptance last monday :)). I was a spring admit as well, and let me tell you its definitely not impossible. Civil/Enviornmental will be a bit easier to switch into because they arent as impacted as EECS or BioE, but you will have to keep your grades good (3.0 technical GPA or above). Also, you must be demonstrate your passion for the major in the essay that you write for the app. Furthermore, you must be able to complete the major in 4 years.

Good Luck!

Thanks for the information you guys!

You may want to check your local community colleges for course articulation in http://www.assist.org if you are considering going there in the fall.
