Hi all
I am not accepted to Boulder but trying hard to transfer. I know my parents will want to put me in a s.a.f.e. dorm (substance, alcohol free environment). If my arguements dont sway them against it, then how to I go about changing dorms procedurally, monetarily, and if my parents will be notified before hand for permission or otherwise. I need to know as I have no interest in being SAFE. =( has anyone else had my dilemma i would like to know.

I don't know anything about transferring or changing rooms once you're assigned one, but I know that this fall they had more kids enrolled than they had dorm space, so they were initially using hotel rooms and using student lounges as makeshift housing. I would guess that the situation has calmed down somewhat, but my thought is that if you are successful in transferring, your parents won't have much "say" into what dorm you'll get into - you'll be placed where space is available.

My D was in Darley North, the substance-free housing, her first year. It wasn't her first choice, but she had some other attractive alternatives to CU and she waited until the end of April to decide so she was placed over in Williams Village, which most of the late deciders are housed. Despite the name, there WERE substances there, as there are on all dorms on nearly every college campus across the country. She liked it okay, although she would have much preferred to be in one of the dorms on the Main Campus.

Our S knew that CU was the only place he wanted to go, so he applied early, was accepted right away, and put down a housing deposit with a request for a Main Campus dorm the first night you could do so. He's in Farrand, and is very happy with his choice.

Good luck with your transfer!!
