Is it possible to apply to UCSB undecided.
If not the major you pick, is that binding or is there an ability to change majors?
Can you only change majors within our “school” like engineering school and letters of science school or can you change majors form nay school???
THANK YOU IN ADVANCE
I am curious because UCSB has no majors that I think I want but I still want to apply.
I want a major like business in marketing or finance or Information systems like computer science but not
Why would you want to apply if there are no majors of interest at UCSB? Do you have a unlimited college fund where you can just take classes for no reason? Do you plan to get a 4 year degree?
You eventually have to declare a major if you go in as Undeclared and yes you can select Undeclared for the School of Letters and Sciences.
If you plan to do Engineering, you need to apply as an Engineering major. Switching later will be very difficult with no guarantees. Much easier to switch majors within the College of Engineering than trying to switch from L&S to Engineering.
Some majors in L&S will require a specific GPA in pre-req courses before you can switch. One example is Economics where you start out as a Pre-Major, take your pre-reqs and meet the GPA requirements before you can continue with upper division courses.
In order to qualify for admission into the Economics major, students must complete Economics 1, 2, and 10A with a UC grade-point average of 2.85 or above. No grade lower than a C in pre-major courses will be accepted. In addition, students must complete PSTAT 109 or 120A, Math 3A-B or 34A-B, and Writing 105AA-ZZ or 107AA- ZZ or 109AA-ZZ with a grade of “C” or higher; the grades in these courses will not be used in computing the pre- major GPA but will apply to the overall major GPA.
Another such majors is Biology.
Biology Pre-major
All of the majors in biology build upon a common foundation of preparatory course work, typically completed during the freshman and sophomore years. Students interested in graduating with a major in any area of the biological sciences enter UCSB as a pre-biology major and take a subset of this key preparatory coursework in introductory biology, chemistry, mathematics, and physics. Once the pre-major requirements have been completed students may petition to declare one of the full majors. Note: Grades earned must meet the grade prerequisites for the full major.
