um...they are completely different subjects if you really want to do geology do it. but don't jus change your major becaues u want to go to UCLA. remember, you are stuck with your major for the rest of your life. UCLA is only two years.

I'm applying to UCLA with a major that isn't the one that I am applying to at any of the other schools that I am considering because getting into UCLA as a Political Science major is so competitive and I don't have a GPA competitive enough to get in to that program( I have more of an interest in this major than Political Science though). It just so happens that UCLA and UCSD are the only UC's that have this particular major and UCLA had 8 people apply for it and 3 got in. It's a low chance for me to get in, but I really want to get in this major and It's no loss if I don't get in, much as I'd like to.

Yes, you are insane! I remember you had posted in another thread that you originally wanted to be a Bio major. Then you changed it to Gen. Chem major. Now you want to change to Geology based on the transfer stats? You've changed your mind 3 times in a matter of days. That's crazy, no? I agree with fei. Don't change your major because you want to go to UCLA. Have a little faith in yourself. Just because the stats seem more appealing for a certain major doesn't mean you should change your major for that reason, especially if you go from being pre-med to suddenly being a Geology major; these are two very different majors. Go with what you are MOST interested in and TRULY want to study (like I had said in the other thread). You know? Be motivated.

This is a sad question. Will you change your career goals to go to one college? Unfortunately, too many kids do this at UCs! So what will you do with a geology degree? What were you planning to do with a chem degree?

My intention was switcing once if i get in to Chem b/c essentially i will have most of the prereqs for it. :)

I am not premed.

UCLA actually has a Geology/Paleobiology major, which is intended for premed people. But i don't have any bio classes done right now. I have no prob doing them in the fall. But i don't know if that will be too late. That major seems like the best for me b/c the prereqs are the ones that i want to do.

This is my progress right now for it.

one introductory course in Earth science- Don't have
one year of general chemistry with lab - Have
one year of biology with lab for the major (cellular, molecular, and genetic) - Don't have

Recommended

one and one-half year of calculus** Have **

one semester in organic chemistry with lab ** don't have **

one year of calculus-based physics with lab (mechanics, electricity and magnetism)** don't have **

To get a UCLA degree rather than one from a lower UC? Most everyone would take a few extra classes if it were that simple. Frankly I'd take an extra year rather than go to UCI or UCR!!

your major is not necessarily your career. many people can get good jobs with a geology degree because they know you also took comprehensive courses and are a well rounded person.
