Changing major from Engineering to Computer Science in Carnegie Mellon University

Greetings
I have been accepted in the Carnegie Mellon Class of 2021, Mechanical Engineering, College of Engineering. I wanted to ask regarding the changing my major into Computer Science in the School of Computer Science, or changing into Electrical and Computer Engineering in the College of Engineering. I wanted to know how hard is it?

I asked this very question to a CMU regional admissions officer. He said you should assume it won’t happen.

Pretty much impossible to switch into CS.

^^ we dont really do this anymore. They take < 6 usually and its only going to decrease. And those 6 tend to be TAs and have a near perfect gpa.

@Xavier99 Have you considered seeing if they will consider you for CS before you start? I am not familiar with CMU policy on this but I know some schools may consider you after the fact. You may be in a little more luck in the Electrical/Computer engineering side. I am currently applying as a transfer into that school, and spoke to admissions about transferring between engineering. The lady told me many freshman are not even admitted to the Electrical/Computer Engineering school until after their first year. If that is the case, you may have a little more luck there.

@Eugiebalfj thank you for the Intel. I will keep it in mind.
