Changing major I listed on UC transfer application...?

Hi,
I applied to Berkeley as a junior transfer for fall of 2014. On the UC application, I put my major down as sociology. This is supposedly just a "proposed" major, and schools don't actually accept you into that major until you are an admitted student, have done all the prerequisites, and have applied to the major. This past semester, I decided I want to be a psychology major instead. There are 4 classes I need to do in order to fulfill the prerequisite courses. If I complete all the prerequisites this summer for psychology (am signed up for 3 of the 4!) , I should be able to apply to the psych major instead of sociology, right?? That is if I am admitted... Waiting anxiously for April 25!!

Thanks for your help!!

Psychology is an impacted major in Berkeley so you must have all prerequisites done by spring before you transfer.

According to assist.org you can finish classes over summer if need be. Also it’s a capped major, meaning you’re given one semester to complete prerequisites and apply once at Berkeley.

@oongaboonga yes, if they applied as a psychology major that would be true. I believe if you are accepted as a sociology major and decide on psychology you have to apply to that major by the fall. All the psych majors have to apply to again in the fall since it is impacted. Theoretically the OP could complete the prereqs in the summer and get into the psych major in the fall, as long as they have the GPA.

@coocoocachoo25 OP will being missing one

I think that they can take it in the fall. I know with economics you still have to complete stats at Berkeley that fall semester. You are right though, if they don’t take that course they will not be admitted to the major.

I think during the first quarter you can change your major assuming it is non impacted. I’m hoping to do this if I get accepted into UCLA (Philosophy to Egyptology).

Make that all quarters, but since UCB has a 2 year time limit, I doubt you’d be able to after the 2nd/3rd quarter since most majors take 1+ years.
