Changing Major Junior Year SVA

Hello, I am very strongly considering community college for illustration, and then trying to go to NYC SVA for college to finish a bachelor’s degree. My problem is that the community college doesn’t offer a cartooning major, which is what I really want to study, but SVA does. So if I go to SVA as a Junior, will it be difficult to change my major from illustration to cartooning? Will I need to do something like make up extra work?

You need to talk to the registrar/admissions people more at SVA. You may be able to transfer your art classes in for your freshman ‘foundation’ year. However, for basically any BFA, and especially at an art college, you can’t automatically transfer in as a junior since the track for that specific type of BFA (in your case Illustration) starts during the sophomore year and those classes are then the pre-requisites for junior year etc.

I teach part time in an art department and most of the students who transfer in from community college must enter as sophomores to stay on track for their major.
