I applied to Cal Poly as a Psych major and got in. I know that it is difficult to change majors at Cal Poly, but is it possible for me to change my major to computer science, software engineeer, or civil engineer?

possible, but will be a lot of work.

They just changed the process and in a way, it’s a bit easier. You have to meet with an advisor for the major and you will sign a contract (ICMA). Pretty much, it is saying you have to take 3 specified major/support classes with a 2.5 and you’re guaranteed in. The contract gives you two quarters to complete. Since you are planning to change into engineering, if you do not have calculus ap credit, take some calc classes over the summer at your local CC.

Yes, it’s theoretically possible. No, you shouldn’t count on being able to do so.

Maybe I should’t have said “guaranteed” but a good change. Say you want to change into computer science or software engineering, if you pick up programming relatively quickly, your gpa most likely will be better than a 2.5.

I’m taking AP Calc now and planning to beast on the exam…if I stop procrastinating lol. While I take these 3 specified major/support classes, I still have to take classes for my current major, Psych, correct?

No, this contract (ICMA) will allow you to skip that requirement so you can focus on changing majors. However, you will have to wait at least one full quarter at Poly before setting up a contract.
