I chose Architectural Engineering as my major and I know that it is in the College of Architecture. What if I really don’t like my major and really want to switch? I read the process many times to switch into the college of engineering and know that it is difficult. Will I maybe get a little bit an edge because I am technically “engineering” and am taking many of the same classes?
Cal Poly engineering majors diverge pretty quickly on their curriculum paths. Your math and physics will be the same, but from there, you’re pretty dedicated to ArchE. Why did you choose it and what makes you think you might not like it?
I chose it because I was interested in majoring in it. My engineering teacher said that it was a good major and is interesting. It is just what if that is not what I want to do anymore. I would love to switch to another field of engineering even though I am not in the same college.
You will likely have an advantage, not because you’re in engineering, in a different college, but because your MCA was high enough to get you into ArchE. The issue as I see it though, is that you won’t know a ton about your major until you’ve been in if a while. If you switch, you’ll have to backfill, possibly a lot, and that’ll mean more years at Poly. My suggestion, rather than fearing the unknown ahead of you, something none of us has any clue about, but human nature drives us to try to control, stoke the fires that got you interested in ArchE in the first place. It’s a great major. Good luck!
