Changing Major Within School of Engineering

Hi,
I got accepted as a Materials Science major at the School of Engineering and Applied Science. I’m doubting how much I want to study that and was wondering if anyone knows how easy it is to change to a Letters and Science/Arts/a different major in School of Engineering. I read somewhere that freshman have the chance to change majors at orientation? I also talked to some people that said that even though people say you have two years to decided on your major, you have to start taking classes for your major asap, so its really less than two years.

You can switch out of Engineering to L&S easily and at any time. You would simply start taking classes for the L&S major you want to declare and then declare it once pre reqs are met. To switch to another engineering major you need to meet min gpa requirements.

And that depends on the engineering major you want to switch to. Anything with computer in the name is the most competitive. Civil and mat sci are the least.

You can change out of Engineering at orientation, but you cannot switch to another engineering major until you’ve been at UCLA at least 2 quarters. And for CS, it would take at least a year because you have to take the first 3 CS classes.
