Hi guys
as my scool has a transfer agreement that ties with the school of civil and envriomental engineering
i was wondering if it is possible to transfer into it with civil engineering major then change my major into other engineering like mechanic engineer?
if it is really impossible to change the major in the first year
is it possible to change my major in the second year and still be able to graduate within 2 years?

Hey rossi,

Changing majors within a college are generally pretty easy unless you have a specific scholarship or already declared a major. Most of the time all you have to do is meet with your advisor and decide what classes need to be changed.

As long as you have all your required classes completed you will be able to graduate on time. Meet with an advisor when you get to campus to help you plan everything out.

When are you transferring? Engineers here are required to declare a major during the fall semester of their second year. Each major has a set of courses they require. Most of them will be the basic freshman engineering courses, like math and physics. In addition, for mechanical engineering I think you need to be taking Thermodynamics and Mechanics of Solids (mainly statics), and your status as a mechanical engineer will be awarded to you if you pass those classes. So I think it depends on whether your credits transfer over. I suppose in principle you could transfer over as a sophomore and sign up for the introductory mechanical engineering courses (Thermodynamics, Mechanics of Solids), and declare yourself a MechE. I would definitely speak to someone in the College of Engineering here.
