Changing Major

I was recently accepted to Duquesne and it is my first choice school! However, is it easy to change majors? I assume that I am not binded to a particular major at this pont, but I was just wondering if it easy to change it once I start next fall?

For the most part, yes. You don’t declare a major until Sophomore year, so changing beforehand is not an issue for most majors.

Only ones where it might become a problem would be nursing and the health sciences I believe…but still not too hard.

I saw online that there is a pre-med program that basically makes sure that you take the right classes to prepare for med school and I am interested in that as well, and I was planning on switching to a health sciences major. It can’t be too hard for me to switch considering I’ll be a freshmen and I won’t have taken any courses yet.

Nursing is unlikely to be an option for a transfer since you get admitted into nursing when you’re admitted to the University. I’m not sure about other health science majors.

At the freshman open house for nursing there was a presentation about the fact that they already had more than 25 students on a waiting list to try to get into the nursing class, including Duq students and a few hopeful transfer applicants. They told us that they may close the program to transfers-in, and were talking about not accepting any more students to the waiting list for the nursing major since it was so unlikely that they’d have openings.
