Changing Majors After Applying?

I recently applied to Pitt's School of Nursing. I have a 3.98 weighted GPA and a 1950 on the SAT's. Pitt sent me a letter in the mail saying that they were going to wait until they received my senior mid-year report and senior year SAT's if I took them. I'm worried that applying to the School of Nursing really hurt my chances of getting in, because I think my grades would definitely be good enough to get accepted into the School of Arts and Sciences. Does anyone know if it is possible to change your intended major/the school that you are applying to after you already submitted your application?

I have this same question. I want to change from Swanson Engineering to School of Arts and Sciences.

CFM1996

I’m actually surprised by that; your stats seem quite on point–both the GPA and the SAT score. the 1950 SAT is in the mid 90s percentile. What was your CR + M? And how were your junior grades? Pitt seems very squirrely on the CR + M combo and barely giving the writing score a nod.

Son is graduating from Pitt in May in Neuroscience/Chem but stayed the course from the beginning–and daughter applied to nursing in August with a 1980/ —650/680/650 and was accepted in September.

cfm posted a score breakdown of 680 reading, 570 math, 700 writing in an earlier post. Pitt generally seems to look for at least 600 on the math portion.

Not to say that you “can’t” get into Pitt without that, but for a competitive program like nursing it may be harder.

@cfm, I would contact the Pitt admisssions office directly with your question about being considered for a different major.

Oh, okay. Thanks Pamom59, that makes sense. Yes, a 570 math would be something they would like to see upgraded… and Nursing is competitive.

You can easily do that because the requirements to get into SSOE are typically higher than to get into A&S. I would contact admissions (OAFA) and talk to them directly about switching. Just say you want to be an undeclared A&S major and it should be fine.

If you were accepted into SSOE can you easily switch between engineering majors from what you originally declared on your application?
