Hi guys, I plan on transferring to Davis this fall.
I got accepted as a history major but I’ve been having a lot of doubts and anxieties about what I’ll be able to do with that degree. I don’t know if theres research stuff available for history majors since it is not exactly a science like psychology or something. I don’t want to teach anymore, especially not high school or lower. I don’t plan on going to law school
I’m just kind of scared to transfer, ecstatic that I got into the school that I really wanted to go to but terrified about graduating in 2 short years.
I’m turning 24 this summer so I feel a little left behind already. I don’t know what to do. I’ve been looking at other majors at Davis that really interest me but they’re all science based. I don’t have any science or math classes done besides the bare minimum needed for transfer. I’m taking psychology statistics(which I’m really enjoying) right now to fulfill my math requirement. I only have my GE and history courses.
Am I screwed?
I really want to do research, pursue grad school and all of that. I feel like something more science based would allow me to do that but I don’t know if Davis would allow me to transfer from History of all things to a science major.
I think you should talk to somebody on decision day or maybe talk to a Davis counselor. I heard it’s easy to change majors, so you might be fine. I’m sure there’s posts on here that ask about a similar situation. I think that when you enter in the fall you’ll start taking the classes for your new major and you could change your major officially in the winter or spring quarter.
After your first quarter here, you just get a couple signatures (it’s all online now, but depending on the major they may want to talk to you in person) and you’re switched. It doesn’t matter if it’s in the same college or not; if it’s a cross-college switch it just requires additional signatures from the deans, which they’ll give you as long as you meet switching requirements (i.e. not over the unit max to switch, haven’t filed to graduate, fulfilled any prereqs to enter the major).
But yeah, once you’re on campus just talk to your orientation leader (or an adviser in general) about possible majors and they’ll walk you through it. Take classes towards them, and if there are prereq requirements make sure to fulfill those so you can switch. Then once you’re here at least a quarter and have the prereqs, get those signatures and you’re golden!
@PhantomVirgo
wow okay, you just made my night <:-P
I’m not trying to transfer into engineering or anything like that. Hopefully it won’t be too difficult then.
Thank you so much for the info
