Hi, I recently got accepted into NYU and I want to know if I could change the initial major I applied for. I originally applied as majoring in Environmental Sciences, but I want to change it to Biology/Pre-Med. Is this a difficult process? Both are in the CAS, so I don't think it will be too difficult right? How do I do this before beginning classes?

Yes you can change majors.

It’s very easy to change majors, and you can do so multiple times while at NYU.

If you go to Welcome Week, tell your academic adviser during your advising session (every person at Welcome Week has an advising appointment set up for them; they’ll bring you all over in a group) that you want to be a Bio major with a pre-med track, she’ll tell you exactly what to do. If you don’t go to Welcome Week (not sure if it’s even optional), then make your own advising appointment by calling the CAS advising center.

Also, I’m pretty sure that even if you applied as an X major and were accepted as an X major, you still haven’t actually declared a major. Like it just shows up on your application as “this person INTENDS to major in X,” not that you actually declared the X major (yet). To declare a major, you simply walk into whatever department it is, fill out a declaration form, and hand it in to whoever is sitting at the front desk in that department. But anyway, talking to your adviser will clear up any confusion about the process that you may have. Good luck!

I heard welcome week is awesome :)

Thank you very much!
