Hi all. S was admitted into the Nuclear Engineering program starting in the fall of 2018. While he has been admitted into his #1 school he would prefer to change and enter into Physics in L&S. Is this something that may be possible/easy and, if so, who would he speak to about this? Any help is appreciated. Thanks!
It is not hard to change into L&S: https://ls.berkeley.edu/advising/academic-progress/changing-status/change-college-ls
Within L&S, physics is not a restricted or capacity-limited major: http://physics.berkeley.edu/academics/undergraduate-degree/the-major-and-minor-program
The math and physics courses for nuclear engineering and physics substantially overlap in the first few semesters (Math 1A, 1B, 53; Physics 7-series or 5-series), so there is no urgency now if he is not completely sure. https://engineering.berkeley.edu/academics/undergraduate-guide/degree-requirements/nuclear
If he is not sure, suggest that he stay in nuclear engineering for the time being until he decides for sure, because it can be difficult to switch back into nuclear engineering (or any engineering major) if he switches out.
Thanks ucbalumnus! Your shared info is very helpful and enlightening. He’ll be happy to hear that he has choices.
