Hi
I want to change my major from Business Econ to regular Econ.
Mainly because it has less courses.
I already submitted my SIR to get into Business Econ. Can I still change majors? I am starting this Fall 2013.

I know that there's another thread like this, but I need to know specifically for UCI.

You’d more than likely have to wait to change majors after you enroll at UCI. Being as they likely have the same prereqs and Biz Econ is usually the more specialized, competitive out of the two, I’d have to imagine it’d be pretty easy to switch from Biz Econ to Econ after you enroll. Most of the UCs allow you to switch majors relatively easily as long you have some of the prereqs completed and the major you’re switching into is not impacted. Also, it’s generally pretty easy if the majors are in the same department. To get a definitive answer you should probably call admissions or get in contact with a department advisor at UCI.

I asked the School of Soc. Sci. and they said that I would just have to go to MyAdmissionsApplication and request the change.
But, I’m not sure if this applies to students who have already submitted their SIRs or not.

I wouldn’t imagine that you’d get your application re-reviewed after your decisions been made and after you submitted your SIR. However, you should probably get in contact with admissions just to be sure. Regardless, I wouldn’t be too worried about switching majors even if you won’t be able to do so until you enroll. You should be fine going from Biz Econ to Econ. Here at UCSD it’s literally as easy as going to your online student account and just selecting a different major in a little drop down menu. I’m a Molecular Biology major and I can switch between any of the 8 majors in my department with the click of a mouse.

That’s good to hear. Would it matter if I were trying to change majors from School of Humanities into School of Social Sciences? Ex. English to Economics
