Changing majors difficult?

I heard from multiple people that it is harder to change your major at SLO than at other schools. Is this true at all? Thanks in advance.

only if you transfer into an impacted major, then it is nearly impossible.

it's not that hard if you actually do good in the required courses. i have friends there that have switched from chem to kinesiology, bio to aero engineering, stats to civil engineering, and there are a few others. you just need to make sure you actually do all the courses that you need to switch majors and you get good grades in them.

Could I change from Social Sciences to, say, Business or Architecture?

Yikes. It woudl probably be difficult. Those are the two most impacted majors, right?

architecture.. it's hard. although, that's what i plan on doing. haha i talked to the profs there and it'll be hard to take the classes at poly because it's so impacted. if you can somehow manage to add one of the arch courses, that's great. if you can't, the easiest way to get the classes you need is to take them at cuesta while attending poly (which is what i'll probably do). also for arch, you'll need a portfolio, but the profs told me that they'll help you a lot on it.. kinda show you what they want and stuff so that part shouldn't be a problem. as for business, you need to make sure you maintain at least a 3.2 (that's what a friend attending poly told me.. not sure if it's true though..) in order to switch into it. basically, if you keep your grades up, it won't be insanely hard to switch. i mean.. you'll still have some trouble getting the classes you need.. but it's not impossible.. and if it's what you really want.. it's worth it.

3.2 doesn't sound too hard. I'm just worried that I will decide to attend Cal Poly over a community college and then end up being stuck with a major I really don't want.

that's the minimum though.. so you want to do better than that. and remember.. according to poly's grading system, an A- isn't the same as an A.

A=4.0
A-=3.7
B+=3.3
B=3.0
B-=2.7

and etc.
