Changing majors from CS to MechE?

Hi guys,

Under a few circumstances, I’ve realized that CS isn’t the major for me (at least, not as a single major)–unfortunately, I was admitted to Berkeley as CS. If I go to Cal, I want to either transfer into MechE or add it as a simultaneous degree; does anyone know what the chances are of me getting into MechE?

According to the Berkeley Engineering website, the admissions criteria and requirements for admittance to either are the same. I’m particularly concerned about my ability to get the two engineering classes I’d need since they say that I need to complete the freshman course requirements for MechE in order to apply for transfer/simultaneous degree, so insight on an L&S student’s ability to get these two classes or likelihood of admittance into the program is welcomed.

The stress that’s resulting from all of this is only doubled because I have to decide on whether or not I want to go to Cal by this Wednesday because I was admitted off of waitlist :frowning:

@tamano

First of all, did you apply to L&S CS? Please note that you are not in CS yet. You can only petition for the major once you complete 3 required courses with 3.3 GPA.
Secondly, if you don’t want to do CS and prefer ME, why didn’t you apply for ME in the first place? Transferring from L&S to COE is not going to be easy.
With that being said, you can stick with your current plan of transferring to or doubling major in ME. Even if you don’t get into COE, you can consider minor in ME. However, you still need 3.0 GPA in prerequisite courses to be considered for ME minor.
You have lots of unknown going to Cal.
Which school did you plan to go before getting off waitlist at Cal?
