I was admitted to UCLA as a psych major, but I've had a change of heart and really really want to change it to history. Sadly, I found this at the end of the provisional contract:

"Additionally, you were admitted to UCLA according to the major you indicated on your application. It is unlikely that you will be approved to change majors after transfer."

Anybody know how lenient/strict the school is on this topic? I'd love to hear from current transfer students who may have gone through this. (Or anyone w/ legit info.) Thanks in advance.

oh goddd I was having this exact freak out session a few days ago haha!
I thinkkkk (According to hearsay, which we all know MUST be right :P) you can change your major during orientation if it’s

A) Not impacted
B) Feasible to switch into acc. to the prerequisites you completed

I have noi dea what’s gonna happen in my case but I wish you luck b/c I’m terribly undecided!

I’m the exact opposite of you! I’ve been admitted as a history major, but I would love to change to (or double major in) psychology. If only they would let us switch!

I recommend contacting the History Department to see if it’s possible to change.

fall semester I took this HORRIBLE, mind-numbingly boring research methods class and I completely lost my interest. Silly, I know considering that it was only one class and I blame 90% of it on the bad professor, but still. Plus, I’ve loved history since I can remember and I think you should study what you love :). I could double major, but I also want to do something w/ film (which will be extremely hard to get into at UCLA). Ahh! So complicated.

It’s ok I’m in a spanish class that is SOOOO hard that I can’t believe it-I used to think I was “good” at languages and I currently am on the verge of a B- in that class

I still want to become fluent in spanish but I think learning languages completely from an institutional standpoint is kinda pointless lol

I don’t think you can switch at orientation. You have to wait a quarter to appeal I believe. And yes you can transfer into the majors that are not off-limits (ex. of off limits=highly impacted, highly selective like engineering, communications, poly sci…etc), there are majors that are impacted that you can switch to because they are not AS impacted as other majors, they are low level impacted. Also, don’t bother if you don’t have any pre-reqs. Just switch to something that has similar pre reqs as your current major, they definitely grant major switches to many current students enrolled for at least a quarter.
