I was admitted as a transfer student into the college of Engineering, as an Electrical Engineer. However, I applied for Computer Science and I was wondering how difficult it would be to switch from Electrical Engineering into Computer Science. I called the CS department and I was told that because I had 3 “screening” classes done already, I would have to take 8 units of their “screening” courses in order to apply. But, I do not know the odds of being accepted, nor do I know how difficult it is. Thanks
Have you read https://cse.ucsd.edu/undergraduate/cse-capped-major-status ?
@Gumbymom so let say that he applied for the major CS and he didn’t make it. will his major change from EE to undeclared or stay the same no matter what the outcome
@iLoveLuffy: Are you referring to the original poster? If so, to change into CS it is done by taking the screening courses, getting the minimal GPA and then being placed into a lottery. There is no guarantee in changing from EE to CS and if not accepted into CS, then the OP remains an EE major.
@Gumbymom is it fine if I take some screen courses for electrical engineering outside of UCSD. I was planning to take math20b and physics 2a at my local community college, will they still let me change my major to EE if I took some classes outside of UCSD?
@iLoveLuffy: I would confirm with UCSD’s EE department before committing to taking the CC courses.
@iLoveLuffy The screening courses must be taken in UCSD and you cannot use a course taken at UCSD that articulates to something that you took in community college.
