<p>I’ve heard conflicting stories about how students eventually wanted to change their major after transferring in a semester or so later and either could not or had to petition it (give a really good reason). Something about transferring in with an “easy” major and then trying to change to something like engineering, cheating the system so to speak. But in this case I have a genuine reason for wanting to change given lots of interest in my current classes, but apparently they want to prevent some students from bait and switching.</p>
<li>Can you change majors easily within the same college or from college to college? If not do you just wait another semester for space to clear?</li>

<p>1) Changing majors is fairly easy, especially earlier on in your college career. Basically if oyu meet the requirements of the major, you will most likely be accepted. For ex, I changed from microbio (LS college) to nutrition (AG college) during my second semester and it was as simple as going to AG and asking them to place me in the major. </p>
<p>2) Im not too familiar with double majoring, Im guessing you would petition both colleges (if its in different colleges?)</p>
<p>graphite, i've had the same problem. i transferred to uf this semester, and over the summer i decided i wanted to change my major from sociology to psychology. this semester i took some classes in psychology, and then asked a liberal science advisor a few weeks ago if i could change majors. they told me i couldn't because i wasn't "originally admissable to the psychology program" and that i should consider a double major if i really wanted to pursue it. they also told me i could appeal, but it wasn't likely it would be accepted. but i think that if i get good grades in my psych classes, i can hopefully prove to them that im serious and want to switch by the end of the semester. but if i dont, im kinda screwed because no classes will be left.</p>
<p>I didn't know it was so hard to switch majors as a transfer. I know for general admits, its extremely easy before you reach 90 credits hours. However, to double major you need a certain GPA.</p>
