I want to change my alternate major from Computer Science Engineering to Economics. But i heard that if you're primary major is engineering, you're alternate has to be engineering as well. Could someone confirm this?

I am not sure sure about your question, but I am pretty sure that you will be admitted by your primary major or rejected. I don’t think the secondary major matters much for admissions unless thats what you want to double major in.

I don’t know about UCLA, but when we toured UC Davis the tour guide (who also worked in admissions) suggested picking a different college for your alternative major because then you would have a better chance of getting in. My understanding was, that at least at Davis, if they decline you from one major then they forward it to the other college and they may accept or decline.

Nope, it doesn’t work that way here.

@arklogic: How does the admissions process at UCLA work?

The school you apply for is the school that makes the final decision. If you apply for a major in the school of engineering (and have an alternate major in the school of letters and sciences), your application won’t get “forwarded” to L&S if you get rejected for another chance. You’ll just get rejected.

What’s the point of declaring an alternate major then? They should just be like Berkeley and do away with the alternate major altogether.

Don’t bother. The UCs use the same app for all schools, but UCLA is one of the campuses that doesn’t look at your alternate major.
