I want to change from Economics to Econometrics/Quantitative Economics (I thought econ WAS what econometrics was)
If I apply to change majors, and for some reason they don't accept me into the new major, am I out of my old major? I'm content with econ, but feel econometrics would much better prepare me for graduate school.

Aww. The overachiever, I’m-too-good-for-haas-so-i’m-going-to-UCI didn’t even know what economics was.

Sorry, I’m pretty unfamiliar with UCI. Is Econometrics an impacted major? If so, you usually have to list a non-impacted backup and if you don’t, then you just get put in undeclared status.

L a k e r s

apparently wanting to shift to a more specialized major in the same field as it better reflects what you want means you had no idea what the general major was. News flash, I did, I just didn’t know there was a similar major more suited towards my original desires(that said, standard econ I’d enjoy as well)
also I never said I was too good, I just don’t see a point in spending money on an undergraduate degree when your graduate and/or doctorate degrees matter A LOT more. It’s almost as dumb as changing highschools solely because you’re worried that potential employers will look down on you 5 years in the future. That said, if you don’t plan on going further, DEFINITELY shoot a bit higher in school selection if you feel you won’t be overwhelmed.

economics is impacted
biz econ is impacted
quantitative economics(aka econometrics) is impacted.
They’re all in the same school though.
