Changing majors to film or broadcast?

So long story short, I'm starting to find out that I've been kind of a kinesthetic learner all along, and am considering changing my current major (English) to something that would allow me to have both an education and a career path that would let me focus more on doing "hands on" kind of work. Hearing about the technical side of film and moviemaking has always fascinated me, and I wouldn't mind having a job as, say, a camera operator or a foley artist, or something else along those lines. Also, the film industry /seems/ like a fairly "creative" sort of place to be, which is something else that draws me to the possibility.
However, I still have to decide whether changing my major to film would be the best decision or not. I have about the same amount of time left in school whether I change or keep my current major, which is one matter. I also understand that the field is a very competitive one and is difficult to break in to, which is something else to keep in mind. If anyone familiar with either the major or career choice could chime in, I would really appreciate it.
Thanks in advance!
