Changing majors to selective major

Hi. I want to transfer out of community college this year. However, I'm not sure whether or not I can go in as a selective major. I want to go to either UCD, UCLA, UCSD, and UCI.

Can I apply as a physics major then switch to engineer when I get applied to any of these four colleges? Thank you so much.

Isn’t Google a wonderful thing?

Honestly, you’re probably better off just applying as your intended major… either way you need to complete your majors pre-reqs, and you’ll have a GPA requirement in place. You could put physics as your alternate major, and aim for engineering. If admissions is competitive though, transferring into the major will be equally challenging, except you won’t have other schools as a backup option at that point. It’s silly to try and game the system this way, chances are you’ll either end up taking extra classes or you’ll be in real trouble when you try and get into your major.
