If I was accepted into UPenn CAS as a History Major or any other major within CAS how easily could I switch majors withing the College. For example if I was accepted as a history major but wanted to change majors to Biology or Mathematics how fast would that process be? I know switched through colleges like wharton and seas are difficult but what about majors inside a particular college? Thanks in advanced!

You aren’t accepted as a particular major in the College. You’re asked in the application what your intended major is, or if you are undecided, but you don’t actually declare your major until your sophomore year (you’re required to declare by sometime in April or so of your sophomore spring semester, if memory serves).

The purpose of indicating your intended major (or majors) on the application is to allow the Admissions Office to ensure that it’s admitting a well rounded class in terms of intended majors (e.g…, so it doesn’t admit a class that’s half Bio majors and half History majors), and NOT in any way to bind the individual applicants to their intended majors. In other words, if you’re accepted, you start off as undeclared in terms of your major (regardless of what you indicated on your application), and you are free to pursue any major that’s available in the College (including an individualized major, if that’s your thing).

Thanks!
