Changing Majors within Engineering Department - CSU Long Beach

Hello

I got into CSULB with a construction engineering major. After looking at the future and some other assessments, now i want to transfer over to Electrical Engineering.

Is it possible to do so? How hard is it?

Would appreciate all the help.
Thank you

Since you have already been accepted into the Engineering department, I would imagine it should not be too much of a problem to switch majors. I would check with an advisor during Orientation to find out what you need to do. Most schools will let you switch after the 1st semester.

CSULB is a tough school to get into, so congratulations for getting in!
EE may be impacted, so you may have to get approval from the EE dean. When we visited last year, they told us that EE was impacted. Check the EE department. They have 3 main engineering buildings. Make sure you speak to one of the academic advisors in the EE department before you make any changes.

Congrats on your admissions. Fear not, your path is well worn. Almost every college student changes major at least once. New student orientation day is a great time to start the process. If they lock you in for a semester, you’ll be fine. There is so much overlap in the early curriculum, it won’t be a problem.

Thanks for all the input. But i guess i should have asked the question this way.

I’m not a freshman. I got in as a transfer from Community College. I know that freshman and sophomores have more leave way to change majors when they get in. Is it still the same for transfer students?

My objective is to change from Construction engineering to Electrical Engineering.

Thank you for all the help.

Same answer - you pick your classes so, will control what you enroll in. Most schools are do this on orientation day. You can reach out to the school now if you’d like.

Since you are a transfer, and they have limited spots in EE, you really should call and ask the EE department.

Please note that i’m a transferred from Community college. Would that affect my chances?
