Please tell me I'm not the only one considering doing so at the moment.

I cannot remember the statistics for number of students who change their major during their college careers, but I think its fairly high!!! You are in the majority, not the minority. So… do tell. What major now and what switch are you thinking of??

Hi eaglemom10,

I’m currently in Electrical & Computer Engineering and want to switch to either Civil Engineering (my first choice) or Chemistry in the college of natural sciences.

Civil Engineering is very hard to switch into though… I need 24 hours in residence as well as a high enough GPA. In addition, only around 1 out of every 4 transfer applicants are accepted. I really want it, but I’m worried over the uncertainty that I’ll gain acceptance. Taking a bunch of pre req courses without the guarantee of getting in is scaring me now. I really don’t want to dig myself a giant hole in debt, nor do I want to spend 5+ years in college.

I’ve tried setting up an appointment with my advisor but she hasn’t emailed me back yet (emailed her 4 days ago). I guess she’s very busy with people coming to talk to her about spring registration.

Man, I’m frustrated. Glad to know I’m not the only one in this situation though!! Thank you

Hmmm, I wonder if the 1 out of 4 transfer statistic is accurate for switchers within the college of engineering. You’ve passed a significant hurdle by being already a UT engineering student. Best wishes and go for your dream. Don’t settle, yet. If you want it bad enough you can make it happen.
