I marked English as my major on my Rice app, and I'm still pretty sure I want to pursue that, but after some deep discussion with my parents, other kids, and just more people in general, I kind of want to major in something science-related. I don't know for sure yet, but how hard is it to change majors in college if you have the mind to do so?

Well you haven't declared you major yet. You only selected which college you are applying to, and you will be evaluated for admission in comparison with other people applying to that same college. It's completely non-binding and you can move around colleges freely once you're here. I applied under engineering, but now I'm in natural sciences.

You declare your major by the end of your sophomore year. It's as simple as printing off a form and turning it in to the registrar's office. Changing majors is just as easy, but I would say that by the time you're declaring a major it's much more difficult to switch simply b/c of class requirements.

It's my understanding that with the exception of music and architecture, it's easy to change majors at Rice.

Like Jeremiah said, on the Rice side, it is as easy as filling out a form. Of course, on the student side, you can't arbitrarily change majors because you cannot always reasonably complete them (in terms of time, workload, etc).

But I would like to point out that double majoring is really common here, I think almost 2/3 of students double major. If you are thinking of something science-related, vtao, but also are interested in a few humanities courses, you would probably end up double majoring without trying because humanities majors are typically 10 courses (essentially 1 course per semester). Among double majors, I heard the most common is science and humanities.
