I've been admitted for the fall of 2013 as a freshman for a major in electrical engineering. I was wondering .... Is it possible for me to change my major to Computer Science? I applied with Comp sci as my first choice and EE as my second choice.

If I’m not mistaken, Computer Science is impacted at UCSD. It is not easy to do, but it’s certainly do-able. It is easy to transfer from Engineering to a major in the college of letters and science, such as Economics. It is extremely hard to go from the college of letters and science to a major in engineering. It is still hard, but not as much, from changing majors within the school of engineering.

I’m not even sure If I’m right calling all other majors as College of Letters and Science, but I’m sure you understand what I meant.

^ That’s a little misleading - all bio majors are impacted and not all engineering majors are impacted. The difficulty of changing into a particular major depends on its impacted status and not whether the major is engineering or “letters and science.”

Does the fact that it’s impacted mean that I’ll have NO CHANCE of switching to the major?

I also want to switch to Computer Science. I called about it and they said it’s a low chance, and that I take something else (an open major) in my first year and apply for CS again in the second year.
