I just got accepted into Cal Poly with an animal science major. After further reasearch, I became interested in pursuing a major in biomedical engineering. I heard it would be difficult to change majors, especially in a different college, and wondering how difficult the process is of changing majors and chances of getting put into that major.
Check out this thread from a few days ago:
Unless you would of been accepted for biomedical engineering in the first place you will not be allowed to switch. They do this to prevent people from getting accepted to easier majors so they can get into the school and then switch into majors that are impacted more that they wouldn’t have been accepted for. If you would of been accepted for biomedical engineering when you applied then you can start the process after one quarter.
Thanks for the reply! I’m not sure whether I not I want to switch majors yet, but do you know how long the process will take?
I would suggest the sooner you know the better. You start taking major classes early in your Freshman year, so the longer you wait to switch, the farther behind you may be in graduating within a reasonable amount of time.
It may take a couple of quarters to meet the requirements and according to the link you need to complete your degree in 5 years.
