I applied to Duke this year under the RD plan and I applied to Pratt, but I want to change my major and its in Trinity. I went to the Duke admissions site and it said to write a letter. I just wanted to know what I should include in this letter. Should I just put the major I want to change to in the letter? Should I explain why I would like to change it? Should I respond to the optional why Trinity essay on the common app supplement?

I would probably write the essay so you can be on the same level as the other Trinity applicants. It wouldn't hurt to show your interest that way.

If your math and science grades/scores are stronger than your humanities grades/scores and you think you are qualified to get into Pratt (or, at least, you have an equal or better chance of getting into Pratt than Trinity), I would suggest just not changing anything right now. If you're accepted, it's very easy to change from Pratt -> Trinity once you're actually here -- especially if you come in from the very start knowing that you want to change. Trinity doesn't have the strict requirements that Pratt does, so it's really easy to switch - and plenty of people do.
