Changing majors?

Currently, I'm an undeclared freshman and I would like to enter an impacted major, from the biology dept. What would I have to do?

you could start by googling ucsd biology impacted majors and reading this:

[enrollment management](http://biology.ucsd.edu/undergrad/enrollmentmanagement.html)

basically, you have to kick butt at all the prereq courses, and show them that you’re just as capable of handling the coursework as those who are already in the major.

Thanks, I’m just currently reconsidering my options… as I’m a bit overwhelmed…

Be warned- you probably won’t get in, unfortunately. It is very challenging to get into an impacted major, and when it comes right down to it, it’s partially based on luck.

Well against all odds, I’m determined to at least put up a struggle to get in…

Actually, as of last year it was possible to get in without completing all LD courses, there’s a very small segment on one of the info pages that says if they still have space after pooling from those who actually have the full requirements they would pool from those who applied without completed requirements. Last year almost no one had completed all the requirements since most people who wanted in Bio (or those who would have naturally had a larger advantage being a year ahead, the class of 2012 that is) were able to get in since they warned the previous year that Bio would become impacted in the fall of 2009.

I didn’t complete all of the pre-req courses and applied anyways and I’m now a human biology major as of this summer.

People with uncompleted requirements with gpa’s nearing a 3.4 (I know of 4 people personally) were admitted.

Try your luck with the next open period and keep your GPA strong.

Additionally: The Ecology, Behavior, and Evolution track of the Environmental System majors has a bio-heavy curriculum (mostly BIEB but includes electives in the other UD Bio subjects) if you really want to get into Bio without being in the major.

Thanks for the suggestion! I think that major you recommended at the end fits my interest’s even more!
