Changing my major after applying

I applied as a communications major at UCLA. All pre-reqs done with a 3.91. For those who don't know UCLA's communications is the hardest Letters & Science major to be admitted to with an avg GPA of like 3.94 and reports last year that only 3.9 applications or higher were reviewed.

Well I basically have NO room for error if I want to have a chance at being accepted, but I fear I might get a B or C in my Math class this semester and significantly drop my GPA putting me out of competition.

I read on the UCLA website that you have until January 30th to change your major. My second choice is Sociology. I have the GPA for sure, but I'm missing two pre-reqs for it and I already signed up for classes so I'm not taking them in Spring.

I was just wondering how that would work though if I did decide to change to a Sociology major, I mean they had a prompt specifically asking us about our intended major. Wouldn't it be kind of weird to read an application for Sociology, but the person is blabbing all day about how much he loves the communications major?

hmm I am not sure if you can change your major in the January update. You will need to double check that. But are you doing TAP with UCLA? if so you may get into sociology anyway in case you are not accepted under your first choice major.

Where does it say that we can change our major until January 30? I also wish to change my major at UCLA. I don’t think we can change our major in the January update…? Or can we?

Sorry for the extremely late response. I found the link that explains this major change option. However, the * at the bottom I think is saying that you can only apply as a different major in the College of Letters & Science if you applied first as a Comm major. That’s what I’m gathering from that. My question still remains about the personal essay though. Going to seem weird reading an essay of a person applying as a Sociology major when it has Communication major info all over it!
