changing PE, theology, philosophy requirements

I read online that the 2 semesters of physical fitness required at ND are now going to be 2 lifestyle/mental health classes.
The theology and philosophy requirements are also being debated.
Can anyone speak to when these changes (if made) will take effect/will they affect current students/incoming classes?
Thank you!

Not sure if they will affect us (incoming freshman here). Hopefully not the physical fitness! I was looking forward to those classes! :frowning:

It’s my understanding the PE classes are no longer required - so not even for the incoming Class of 2019. I’ll try to find where I saw that.

One of my father’s favorite parts of his undergrad was the PE: it’s how he learned to fence, and ski! I know that the swimming test is definitely not part of the First Year now, but not sure about PE. I was looking forward to the theology classes, as I’m not a very religious person, and I hope it will enlighten me on the subject. Hopefully they hold taking those classes off the reqs a little while longer!

I do know that whenever changes are made, they only effect incoming classes, so while the class of '19 won’t be taking the swim test, they will definitely have 2 theo classes and 2 philo classes. Those are still under debate, but won’t be resolved for a few years.
