Changing Residence Halls/Mixed Gender

Sup. I got accepted to Clark Kerr as a transfer. Questions:

1) Does it have a gym?
2) If I want to transfer to another hall (Foothill in particular), is it easy to do so? (Experiences would be helpful)
3) I figure there is a shuttle for Kerr, but I've only heard about people walking. Is it that it does not run often? Or is there even one? (They say "catch the 51 bus, 3 blocks away", but come on!)
4) What is the story behind story behind the "Mixed Gender"/co-ed portion. As in, if I understand correctly, even bathrooms are shared. How has that worked out for people. If the triples are shared, has there been privacy issues or intimacy issues?

Answers to any of these would be greatly appreciated!

1) Clark Kerr does not have a gym.
2) I think switching is kind of a hassle. They really discourage you from doing it. Most of the time when someone switches, it’s because of a roommate issue, and they just switch to another part of the same dorm complex.
3) There is a bus (city bus) that used to go by there every half hour or so when I live there. They have since switched up the bus schedules, so the 51 may be your only choice. It’s really not too far a walk. 10-15 minutes depending on how fast you are.
4) I didn’t know there was a story behind co-ed living. It just is what it is. Yes, bathrooms are shared. It’s not a big deal. It’s not like people are walking around naked. In my building at CK, there was hardly ever more than 3 people in the bathroom at once (with 5 stalls, 5 showers, and 5 sinks).

Clark Kerr is nice. The rooms are much bigger compared to the Units. It’s also quite a pretty place to live.

I also got assigned a standard triple at clark kerr (even though i did not have that on any of my top choices)

I was really disappointed when i first heard about it but i am over it and excited to move in

During CalSO i visited Clark Kerr and although it is far from campus, it is suchh a nice place! it is very similar to the spanish architecture of Stanford. Also, they recently renovated every building (except for building 12…so that sucks for whoever gets assigned there) and i have to say it is a HUGE difference from the units (which i stayed in during CalSO) . The walls are clean and white, the rooms are extremely bright due to the lighting, the floors are clean.

I also saw the co-ed bathrooms (which really worried me at first) but the RA showed me around and it is not as bad as one would expect. All the stalls are completely sealed off and although there will probably be some awkward times, it shouldnt be too bad :)

Yeah. Clark Kerr was not on any of my top choices either. I wanted to get into Foothill since it’s closer to the engineering buildings. But seeing as how I am thinking about taking IEOR classes the first semester, maybe it won’t be so bad after all.

Also, the financial aid they gave me was substantial. Changing to the res hall instead of the cheaper co-op saved me a few thousand dollars, even though staying on-campus is much more expensive.

i’m thinking there may be some spots left in Foothill, because I just transferred there a couple weeks ago, soooo you if you still want to, you should email the residence halls and they may be able to accomodate you…yeah, clark kerr is so far away!
