How easy is it to change schools, say from science to engineering. When can you switch? I am on the edge between statistics and chemistry. I will apply for chem, but say on the first day i want to major in statistics. is it easy to switch school to the engineering school on the first day and take the statistics major?

thanks

You don’t have to declare a major until the very end of your sophomore year. Switching majors is extremely easy. The only restricted majors are music (you have to be admitted to conservatory) and architecture. DD switched majors 3 times, no prob. DS switched majors once, no prob.

Thank you for your quick reply! So i am just wondering, is there 1 course book and you can choose whatever you want? the reason is that on the application it asks you which major your interested in, and i am going into natural science, but am also interested in statistics, which is in engineering. If i get in with natural sicence, can i switch schools when i go to rice and take statistics, i only say this becasue i am taking and loving AP stat this year, and dont know what i will want in months

You can take any course at Rice at any of Rice’s schools with the exception of music classes for music majors, some architecture classes, MBA classes, and some graduate school classes. There is one General Announcements for the entire university ([General Announcements](http://www.rice.edu/catalog/2010_2011/)). Also, here is the list of courses being offered this semester at Rice: courses.rice.edu.

as slik nik says - anything except the music and architecture school is up for grabs. You can switch to humanities and back to science if you want. Or double major in a combination of schools
