Changing schools?

My d has just gotten the VIP app for 2007, and has decided to send it in, but there's a question. She's thinking about elementary ed, but that's not set in stone. If she applies to the School of Education & Social Sciences, and then decides that teaching's not for her, can she transfer into Arts & Sciences? If she applies to Arts & Sciences and then wants to try teaching, can she transfer to Education? How hard is it to do so, and will the courses from one school satisfy the graduation requirements for the other?

Does it matter which she applies to if she wants to do the Honors College?

Thanks so much!

Chedva, my S applied VIP last year. It was easy to do and I can tell you it was nice to have that early acceptance. There is an admitted student day in February for the VIP accepted students.

As I recall, at the info session students reported that it is not difficult to change between schools and majors. One student said that she had changed majors 4 times between 3 schools! The required core courses are minimal. One exception is the Rubenstein School of Environment & National Resources, which has more core requirements than the other schools, making it difficult to transfer into it.

Many students apply as Undecided and decide after Freshman year. Your D may wish to consider that route. I don't have any specific knowledge about the Honors college.

Thanks so much, Blizzard! We'll take a look at the possibility of Undecided, too.

My daughter is currently attending UVM. She was accepted VIP. She has entered as an english major. She now cosidering changing majors. All that is required is meeting with her advisor and requesting a change in majors. She then has to bring her advisor folder to the new school she wants to transfer to..it appears to be a pretty easy process to change majors.. she wants to change to psychology. She has had a wonderful experience on campus and in Burlington.
